Tigers Fall in Overtime Battle with FVSU, 71-66

FORT VALLEY, Ga.– It seemed as if every bounce went the way of the Fort Valley State University Wildcats including long rebounds and difficult shots in the paint and those bounces proved the difference as the West Alabama Tigers fell on the road 71-66 to the Wildcats in the HPE Basketball Arena Tuesday night.
 
The loss drops UWA to 11-15 on the season while FVSU improves to 6-19. 
 
The Tigers trailed for most of the contest and were down by as much as 12 points in the fourth quarter. However, in the that fourth quarter UWA outscored the Wildcats 23-13 to force overtime. Unfortunately, Fort Valley State outscored West Alabama 15-10 in the extra five minutes to secure the 71-66 victory.
 
UWA won the battle on the boards 27-26, but FVSU grabbed 16 crucial offensive rebounds and converted them for 10 second choice points. The Tigers committed 27 turnovers compared to 22 for Fort Valley State.
 
J'Niyah Daniels scored 22 points to lead all scorers in the contest. The junior guard added three rebounds. Bria Dent finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Elaine Field led the team with nine rebounds.
 
Nola Carter and Alex Brooker combined for 15 to lead the Wildcats. Alicia Franklin scored 13 and Nyah Dismukes with 10 points rounded out four FVSU players in double figures.
 
West Alabama returns to action Saturday in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium in Gulf South Conference action against Valdosta State. Tipoff in Livingston, Alabama is set for 2 p.m. The Tigers will honor the senior members of the team between the women's and men's games.
