Tigers Outlast Georgia Southwestern, 13-8

AMERICUS, Ga.Taylor Clemmons ripped two doubles and a triple as West Alabama outlasted Georgia Southwestern, 13-8, in college baseball Friday at Hurricane Stadium.
 
The win improves the Tigers to 3-1. The Hurricanes dipped to 2-3. The two clubs finish the series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is set for noon central time.
 
The two teams combined for 21 runs, 22 hits, 16 bases on balls and 10 errors. West Alabama left nine on base and GSW stranded 12.
 
Georgia Southwestern built a 4-1 lead only to watch it evaporate when the Tigers scored a single run in the third inning and four more in the fifth. GSW answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead.
 
A single run in the sixth inning and five more in the top of the seventh put the game away for West Alabama. The Hurricanes would manage two more in the bottom of the eighth, but West Alabama answered in the ninth with two runs without the aid of a hit.
 
Kirby Osborn (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Tiger starter Cole Waites. Osborne allowed five hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Waites allowed six runs, but only two were earned. Nick Rathke got the final three outs for the Tigers.
 
Hurricane reliever Jared Donalson (0-1) was tagged with the loss. One of five GSW pitchers, Donalson allowed three hits and five runs, four earned, over 1.2 innings worked.
 
Trevor Smeeton and Jaylon Keys chipped in two hits each in a 12-hit Tiger attack. Smeeton, Keys and Austin Moffett all drove in a pair of runs. One of Smeeton's hits was a triple. Wyatt Ball had an RBI double.
 
Jason Baita and Andy Moore had two hits each for Georgia Southwestern. Bo Halcomb and Moore each had two RBI. The Hurricanes did not have an extra base hit.
