Tigers Hammer Spring Hill to End Road Swing

MOBILE, Ala.Jake Hartman had five hits and drove in five runs as West Alabama pounded Spring Hill College, 16-2, Wednesday in college baseball at historic Stan Galle  Field.
 
The win ended an eight-game road swing for the Tigers, improving UWA to10-9 on the season, Spring Hill dropped to 4-10.
 
Hartman doubled and belted his sixth home run of the season to highlight a 14-hit West Alabama attack. Justin Booker added three hits for the Tigers and drove in three runs. Trevor Smeeton drove in three runs and Ryan Hughes two. Both had a pair of hits.
 
The Tigers took advantage of four walks and a single to put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Ben Dalke and JD Roberts drew bases loaded walks and Booker drove in a run on a fielders choice.
 
Hartman doubled in two runs in the second to extend the UWA lead to 5-0 before Smeeton tripled in a pair of runs in the third inning after a throwing error by SHC kept the inning alive.
 
Hughes  and Chris Simon doubled in the fourth, while Booker drove in a run with a single and Smeeton ha a sacrifice fly as UWA extended its lead to 11-0 in the fourth inning.
 
Landon Powell got Spring Hill on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run over the wall in right field.
 
The Tigers stretched the lead to 13-1a pair of runs in the 5th inning. Hughes and Booker drove in runs, Hughes with a single and Booker with a triple to right center.
 
Hartman's homer stretched UWA's lead to 16-1 in the sixth inning.
 
The Badgers used a walk, a hit batter and a single to score another single run in the eighth inning.
 
Peyton Warren (2-0), the first of five Tiger pitchers, worked five innings for the win. He allowed a run on three hits while striking out three and walking none. Spring Hill used nine pitchers in the game, but starter Taylor Gibson (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on a hit and walking four in one-third of an inning.
 
Tiger pitching limited the badgers to just five hits from five different players.
 
West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference action Saturday with a single game at Tartt Field against Shorter at 5 p.m. Spring Hill plays a three-game series at Paine College beginning Saturday.
