UAH Snaps Tiger Win Streak at Nine

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Will Acuff and Drake Hollingsworth drove in runs in the top of the 10th inning to lift Alabama Huntsville to a 3-1 Gulf South Conference win over West Alabama Friday at Tartt Field.

The win improved UAH to 21-13 overall, 11-7 in GSC play. West Alabama had its win streak snapped at nine games, falling to 19-11 and 7-10.

The Chargers evened their road record at 9-9, while UWA dropped to 7-6 at home. The loss was the first for West Alabama in three extra-inning games this season.

Nolan Ramsey had three of Alabama Huntsville's eight hits, but the Chargers also took advantage of four errors and 10 runners left on base by West Alabama. Steven Milke and Acuff doubled for UAH.

No UWA player had more than one hit in a six-hit attack, but four of the Tigers hits were doubles by Taylor Clemmons, JD Roberts, Justin Booker and Ryan Hughes.

Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision, but both deserved better than a no decision. UAH starter Tyler Self went 8.2 innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run while striking out seven and not walking a batter. UWA starter Tanner Elders allowed no runs on just four hits, didn't issue a walk and struck out six in six innings.

Charger reliever Brooks Brophy (4-2) allowed a hit but no runs in 1.1 innings for the victory. Tiger reliever Kolby Crowley (3-6) was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out four over 3.2 innings pitched.

The series is set to conclude with a doubleheader Saturday on Autism Awareness Day at Tartt Field. First pitch is set for noon and is scheduled to be thrown out by Hudson Chambless, son of former Tiger pitcher Clint Chambless.
