Condone’s Golden Goal Lifts Tigers in Second OT, 2-1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.– In the final seconds of the second overtime period between the West Alabama Men's Soccer team and the Eckerd College Tritons, Liam Condone found just enough space on the left side of the box with some help from his friends to hit the golden goal needed to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 win Friday night at Johnson Field.

The goal from Condone came from a throw in on the right side by David Nascimento and with a slight redirection from Paul Florian Efang, Condone was able to score the game winner in the 110th minute.

"All praise has to go to the players tonight! They battled from start to finish and I can't fault any of their effort and desire," said Head coach Ross Nelson. "To get a result like that on the road against a very strong Eckerd side is something that does not come easy! We need to build momentum from this win and move on to the next. We said at the start of the season to take it one game at a time, and we play another solid side in Flagler on Sunday. So, we must maximize recovery now and move on the next."

West Alabama (1-1-0) scored first when Callum Rai scored a goal with an assist from Lucas Hart at the 1:06 mark.

Eckerd's (2-1-0) Pedro Galvao tied the contest at the 18:33 mark with an assist from Agustin Pertusso at 1-1 which held until the final dramatic goal.

The Tritons committed 32 fouls in contest compared to 14 for UWA. The Tigers also outshot Eckerd 13-9 and had more shots on goal as well, 7-4.

Cosmas Uzoaru (1-0-0) received the start as goal keeper and finished with three saves.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday against the aforementioned Flagler College Saints. Match is set for a 12 p.m. CDT start. Game links are available on uwaathletics.com.
