Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MC Grabs 3-0 Victory over Tigers

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team fought hard, but the bounces went the way of the Mississippi College Choctaws who won the first Gulf South Conference match of the season for both teams 3-0 Thursday night in Tiger Stadium.

UWA falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. MC improves to 2-1-2 and 1-0 in league competition.

MC struck first on a goal by Owen Connelly with an assist from Guilherme Santos at the 38:54 mark. Marco Sellan was in the right place at the right time to score an unassisted goal at the 79:16 mark to put the Choctaws up 2-0. Connelly scored one more goal with an assist from Antoine Recizac in the final minute to give Mississippi College the final 3-0 edge.

It looked as if the Tigers tied the contest at 1-1 midway through the second half, but the goal was rescinded thanks to an offside call.

UWA outshot MC 16-15 and had more shot on goals 7-6. Vince Stans took seven shots with three being on goal to lead the team.

The physical game included eight yellow cards and 26 fouls.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday in Cleveland, Mississippi against Delta State. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. with game links available on uwaathletics.com.
