Tigers Dispatch of Statesmen for GSC Road Victory

CLEVELAND, Miss.– The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team grabbed its first Gulf South Conference win of the 2019 season with a 3-0 victory over the Delta State Statesmen Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.

The win moves UWA to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the GSC. DSU falls to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

"It feels good to get back to winning ways. Things haven't exactly been going our way as of late and the boys played fantastic today, especially in the second half," said Head coach Ross Nelson. "It's not easy to come to Delta State and get a result like that, and It was exactly the reaction we needed. We looked defensively solid for the majority of the game, and the biggest positive has to be the shutout. It's important now we kick on from this and move all our focus to the next game."

Maxime Correia scored the first goal at the 26:06 spot. From there Adam Zayed scored two goals, the first unassisted at the 62:52 mark and the second with an assist from Kyle McLeod at the 64:46 mark to give the Tigers the 3-0 final advantage.

UWA outshot the Statesmen 11-5 with all three Tiger shots on goal finding the back of the net.

Cosmas Uzoaru (3-2-0) made three saves in the win.

West Alabama is on the road for three straight starting with a visit to Dahlonega, Georgia to face the North Georgia Nighthawks. Match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CDT start time with game links available on uwaathletics.com.
