UWA Drops Both Contests on Day Two of Texan Invitational

STEPHENVILLE, Texas– The West Alabama Volleyball team went from facing the second ranked team in the country the prior day to facing two more national ranked squads, dropping both contests in straight sets in the second day of the Texan Invitational hosted by Tarleton State.
 
West Alabama (0-3) started the day with a loss to #14 Rockhurst (25-12, 25-13, 25-12) where errors plagued the Tigers who committed 19 as a team compared to six for the Hawks in the straight set loss.
 
"We are continuing to grow as a team, and have stepped up to every challenge," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "We are working to develop consistency."
 
Taylor Donato finished with eight kills to pace UWA. Bret Luther and Jessica Akiona both had five kills each. Akiona also led defensively with 10 digs. Grace Harris turned in 23 assists.
 
Karli Reichert had 14 kills and Alyssa Woodman had 12 kills to lead Rockhurst.
 
In the second match of the day, West Alabama battled the host # 10 Tarleton State Texans and it was TSU (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) who came away with the victory.
 
Donato once again led the way for the Tigers as the senior posted nine kills and three service aces. Ally Craig added eight kills with Luther notching five kills and Akiona adding four kills and 15 digs defensively. Rebecca Johnson led the squad with 16 digs. Harris turned in 26 assists in the three-set match. 
 
Lauren Kersey had 11 kills and Tatyana Tuialii-Umi had 10 kills to lead the way for the Texans.
 
UWA wraps the Texan Invitational Tournament with two more ranked opponents starting with #19 Cal State-Los Angeles at 9 a.m. and then #6 Minnesota-Duluth at 2 p.m.
