Tigers Drop GSC Opener at MC

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College had 10 hits and took advantage of four West Alabama errors on the way to an 8-6 Gulf South Conference baseball victory Friday at Frierson Field.
 
Mississippi College is 4-3 overall, 1-0 in GSC play. West Alabama is 5-3 and 0-1. The Tigers and Choctaws complete the series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is 1 p.m.
 
George Farid drove in two runs in the first inning with a single to give Mississippi College an early lead. Brayden Lyman drove in two runs and Taylor Clemmons another as West Alabama took a 3-2 lead in the sixth.
 
Caleb Reese hit a three-run home run to highlight a six-run seventh inning for Mississippi College. Brandon Broussard and Chauncy Callier also doubled in the frame as the Choctaws took an 8-3 lead.
 
West Alabama rallied to score three in the ninth, but it was too little, too late. Connor Christian drove in a run with a double and two more scored on a pair of MC errors. All six runs scored by the Tigers in the game were unearned.
 
Sam Ciaccio (1-0) worked two innings of spotless relief, striking out three, to pick up the pitching win. Austin Chastang got the final out for his first save. UWA reliever Austin Kitterman (1-2) took the loss.
 
Clemmons had two of West Alabama's seven hits. In addition to the pair of RBI, Lyman also stole two bases.
 
Farid led he Choctaw attack with three hits. Grant Barber had a pair of hits.
