Tigers, Argos Split GSC Doubleheader

LIVINGSTON, Ala.Peyton Warren worked six innings, allowing just one run, to lead West Alabama to a 3-2 college baseball win over West Florida in game one and a split in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Saturday at Tartt Field. UWF won the nightcap, 6-3.
 
The split leaves West Alabama 6-6 overall, 1-4 in league play. West Florida is 5-6 and 3-2. The rubber game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
West Alabama scored all three runs in the opener on three hits in the sixth inning. Gavin Rogers drove in a run on a groundout, but the other two runs scored on a West Florida error.
 
The Argonauts scored single runs in the seventh and ninth innings. Miller Hancock drove in the run in the seventh on a ground out and the run in the ninth scored on a double play.
 
West Florida never trailed in the second game, pushing across a run in the third on a RBI single by Dylan Menhennett. The Argos picked up there more in the fourth with the big blow coming from Matthew Estrada's two-run triple down the right field line.
 
A double from Brooks Mitchell and an RBI single from Estrada plated a run in the UWF sixth. Miller Hancock reached on an error and then scored on a Trevor Payne single in the seventh.
 
Taylor Clemmons doubled in a pair of runs in the UWA half of the third and Trevor Smeeton drew a bases-loaded walk to account for UWA's three runs in the second game.
 
Warren (3-1) allowed just four hits in his six innings of work, walking one and striking out six to lower his earned run average to 1.96. Kolby Crowley got the final two outs to earn his second save. Eric Keating (2-1) took the loss despite giving up just four hits and one earned run over 5.1 innings in the opener.
 
UWF reliever Sean Means (1-0) picked up the win in the second game, not allowing a hit or run in 2.1 innings. Anthony Martens picked up his second save. UWA starter Mason Hollander (2-1) absorbed the loss.
 
Estrada rapped out six hits in the doubleheader for West Florida, including going 4-for-4 with three RBI in game two. Payne collected four hits in the twinbill.
 
Jonathan Thibodeau had two hits in the second game for West Alabama. Keegan Morrow went 2-for-3 in the two games and drew four bases on balls to reach base six times.
