UWF Takes Series With 15-0 Win Over Tigers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Florida scored 14 runs with two outs on the way to a 15-0 Gulf South Conference baseball victory over West Alabama Sunday at Tartt Field. The game was called after eight innings due to the GSC mercy rule.

By winning the three-game series West Florida evened its overall record at 6-6 and improved to 4-2 in conference play. West Alabama is 6-7 and 1-5.

The Argonauts sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs on five hits, all after two outs. UWF then put up a six spot in the eighth on three hits, again all coming with two outs. West Florida scored a single run in the second inning.

Matthew Estrada, Trevor Payne, Adam Imwalle, Cullan O'Shea, Brooks Mitchell and Justin Dunnam all contributed two hits in a 13-hit UWF attack. Dunnam drove in four runs, while Payne, O'Shea and Mitchell had two RBI each.

West Florida starter Daniel Floyd (2-0) worked seven scoreless innings for the win, walking one and striking out four while scattering six hits.

West Alabama failed to produce an extra base hit, had nobody with multiple hits and had only two runners reach third base. UWF pitchers sat down 10 straight Tiger hitters to end the game.

Connor Brooks (0-1), the first of six UWA pitchers, was tagged with the loss. In addition to 13 hits, UWA pitchers issued seven bases on balls. Untimely errors meant only eight of the 15 runs were earned.

West Alabama begins a four-game road swing Tuesday against Miles College (7-7) at historic Rickwood field before heading to Alabama Huntsville (7-5, 4-2) for a three-game conference series Saturday and Sunday. West Florida is off until beginning a three-game GSC series at home against Delta State (10-3, 4-2) on Saturday.
