Tigers Drop Two against UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Fast starts in both games for the Alabama Huntsville Chargers in both contests provided enough separation to push back the University of West Alabama softball team Saturday afternoon in Charger Park as UAH won both games of a Gulf South Conference double header. The Chargers won the first game 9-1 and the second 6-3.

UWA falls to 5-12 on the season and 2-6 in GSC play after a fourth straight conference loss. UAH improves to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.

The long ball proved to be the largest factor of the day as UAH hit six home runs combined during the day. The Chargers had extra base hits on eight of the 10 individual scoring plays of the day.

Mckinley Parris registered the first RBI of the day for the Tigers in the fourth inning of game one on a groundout that allowed Kierra Hague to score. UWA lost the first game 9-1 in five innings.

Chrissy Tubbs received her RBI in a similar fashion in the second game with a groundout to the shortstop where Cassie Matlock scored in the first inning of that game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Later trailing 6-1 in the sixth, Hague doubled to left for two RBIs as the speedsters Lexy House and Abby McKee scored to cut the deficit to 6-3. However, that was as close as the Tigers got in the 6-3 game two loss to the Chargers.

Kamree Lay (2-4) received the loss in both games with two hits and three runs allowed in an inning of work in the first game. She struck out three batters in allowed five hits, a walk and five earned runs in the second contest.

Calleigh Wallace also appeared in both games with 0.2 innings of work in the opener where she allowed four hits and two earned runs. Wallace went four innings in the second game and allowed six hits, two walks and an earned run.

Kat Burks went 2.1 innings in the first game with four hits, a walks and an earned run while Haley Thorpe pitched 0.1 innings with two hits and an earned run.

Kendall Johnson (twice), Kylie Martin, Tubbs, Hague and Wallace were all hit-by-pitch. The six hit-by-pitches are the most times an opponent has hit an opposing lineup this season.

West Alabama returns to action tomorrow to wrap the series against Alabama-Huntsville at noon in Charger Park. Links to live stats and live video are available on uwaathletics.com.
