Miles Hands UWA First Loss in Rain-Shortened Game

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Miles College took advantage of two crucial West Alabama errors to plate four runs in a rain-shortened 6-3 college baseball win over the Tigers Tuesday at Tartt Field.

The win was the first of the season for Miles, who improved to 1-3. The Golden Bears spoiled UWA's home opener and dropped the Tigers to 3-1 when the game was called after one batter in the top of the eighth due to rain.

Miles used four hits to score a pair of runs in the first inning, getting RBI singles from Jacob Bisharat and Cody Hamilton. The remaining four runs scored by the Golden Bears were the result of Tiger fielding errors.

Caleb Johnson reached on a Tiger throwing error to lead off the fourth inning. He later scored on a Destin Davidson single.

The Golden Bears picked up three unearned runs in the seventh inning on a two-out error with the bases loaded, plating two runs before Haywood Spencer drew a bases-loaded walk. MC had no hits in the inning, reaching on four walks, a hit batter, a fielder's choice and the error.

West Alabama scored a run in the second when Connor Christian singled in Brayden Lyman, who had also singled to open the inning. The Tigers scored two more in the sixth on an RBI double from Lyman and a throwing error by Davidson.

Miles reliever William Hollis (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless work, allowing just one hit. Austin Kitterman (1-1) absorbed the loss in relief of starter Tanner Elders. Kitterman did not allow a hit in 1.2 innings, but the three unearned runs in the sixth were his.

Davidson and Cody Hamilton had two hits apiece in a six-hit Miles attack. Lyman had two of West Alabama's five hits.

West Alabama closes a four-game homestand when Georgia Southwestern comes to Tartt Field for a weekend three-game set. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., as does the single game on Sunday. Miles is host to Paine College for a pair on Friday.
