Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers Burned by Lady Flames, 66-42

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee Lady Flames came out aggressive early and applied the pressure to the University of West Alabama women's basketball team en route to a 66-42 win Saturday night in Paul Dana Walker Arena in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA fell to 10-11 overall and 5-10 in the GSC. Lee, ranked as high as fourth in the nation, improved to 22-1 on the season and 14-1 in league action.

"That's just a really good ball club," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "They're a team full of seniors and they took advantage of every mistake we made. When you're playing against a good experienced team you can't turn over the ball as much as we did tonight."

The Tigers finished with a season high 29 turnovers which Lee converted to 27 points.

To compound the frustrations, UWA shot 26.1 percent (12-of-46) from the floor and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from behind the arc. The team shot well from the free throw line and went 73.7 percent (14-of-19).

Bria Dent finished with 15 points and matched her career high with 17 rebounds.

"She's all hustle, so I'm not worried about her getting hers," said Cram. "Bria plays with a ton of heart and does what she has to do be a factor in the game."

Lee outscored the Tigers 38-15 in the first half including a 21-4 advantage in the second quarter. The Lady Flames edged UWA in the second half 28-27 as well.

Eleven different players scored for the Lady Flames with seven getting six or more points. Nicky Widensky led the team with 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and an assist.

As a unit, Lee went 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor, 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from three and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the line.

The Tigers did dominate on the boards and outrebounded the Lady Flames 40-28 and won in second chance points 12-8. Lee won in the fast break 20-5, bench points 24-12 and points in the paint 34-14.

West Alabama returns to action in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium on Feb. 13 against Christian Brothers. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN 104.9.
