Tigers Win Series With 7-1 Victory Over GSW

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A trio of West Alabama pitchers allowed just one run as the Tigers defeated Georgia Southwestern, 7-1, Sunday at Tartt Field.
 
The victory gave the Tigers the series win over the Hurricanes and improves West Alabama to 5-2 on the year. Tiger head coach Gary Rundles is now just three wins shy of 1,000 for his collegiate coaching career. Georgia Southwestern is 1-5.
 
West Alabama got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Taylor Clemmons' sacrifice fly plated Austin Moffett, who had reached on a single. UWA stretched the lead to 2-0 when Moffett scored again in the third on a GSW throwing error.
 
The Canes cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth when Sam Marques drive in Miguel Urbina with a fielder's choice.
 
Justin Booker doubled with one out in the UWA fourth and scored when Connor Christian reached on another GSW error.
 
The Tigers put the game away with three two-out runs on a pair of hits and three walks in the fifth. Booker drew a bases-loaded walk and Gavin Rogers singled to drive in two more runs. Christian doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the final run on a ground ball off the bat of JD Roberts in the eighth inning.
 
West Alabama starter Peyton Warren (2-0) worked 6.1 innings for the win, allowing just four  hits and a run while  striking out two and walking three. Warren coaxed 12 ground ball outs. Austin Kitterman and Kolby Crowley finished up without allowing a run.
 
GSW starter Anthony Capasso (0-2) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, and five hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
 
Keegan Morrow was the only West Alabama with two hits in an eight-hit Tiger attack. No GSW players had multiple hits.
 
West Alabama hits the road for a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Mississippi College on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers and Choctaws play a single game Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. Georgia Southwestern is at Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday.
