WEST ALABAMA
This is the season opener for the Tigers. UWA will look to break in what will be a brand-new lineup under first year Head coach Nick Woodruff. Justin Allison is the only West Alabama team member returning who received playing time last season. This will be an interesting year for a team that will have to retool in a hurry to be in contention for a Gulf South Conference Championship contention. Last season the Tigers finished 22-8 overall and 14-6 in the GSC.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
The Choctaws dropped two games to nationally ranked Alabama Huntsville on the road with a 73-72 loss on Jan. 2 and a 91-79 defeat on Jan. 3. Because of the scheduling quirk where teams are playing two games on consecutive days in the same venue, MC may not play a home game this season until Jan. 22.

WHO ARE THESE NEW GUYS?
Kortrijk Miles and Kainan Pouncy were selected among the top newcomers in the GSC this season.

Miles, a 6-foot-5 junior guard from Dallas, Texas, spent last season at Temple College where he averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 53.5 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from three and 67.5 percent from the free throw line.

Pouncy, 6-foot-1 junior guard from Enterprise, Alabama, after spending last season at Francis Marion. In six games last season, he averaged 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, 29.2 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. As a sophomore at Enterprise State CC, averaged 20.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Joining the two are the following (in alphabetical order):
Shardarrion Allen: 6-4 | Forward | Bolton, Miss. | Jones College
Robert Davis: 6-2 | Guard | Clinton, Miss. | Columbus State
Brice Martin: 6-7 | Forward | Jonesboro, Ga. | Maryville College
CJ Melton: 6-5 | Guard | Dallas, Texas | Temple College
Chase Sanders: 6-3 | Guard | Corbin, Ky | Corbin HS
Amiri Waddell: 6-6 | Forward | Charlotte, N.C. | Hill College

Also returning from last year's squad are Te Smith and Roger Davis who both redshirted last season but traveled to every game,

STONGER TOGETHER…BUT STILL DIVIDED
The Gulf South Conference adopted a "mirrored" schedule for the 2020-21 basketball season to help alleviate problems caused by the COVID Pandemic. A "mirrored" schedule means that the UWA men's and women's teams will be playing the same teams at the same time on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the season, only at different locations. For example, when the UWA women play Delta State at home, the men will be playing at DSU and vice versa. This will be the case unless games are cancelled due to GSC COVID-19 protocols.

WHAT'S NEXT
West Alabama will hit the road for the first time for a trip to Jackson, Tennessee to face the Union Bulldogs on Jan. 15 and Jan. 16 in a quick turnaround for the team. Links to video and live stats will be available on uwaathletics.com.
