MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The West Alabama volleyball team broke its one-set curse by taking the first two sets against conference foe Auburn University – Montgomery. Despite the early success, the Tigers could not capitalize on the momentum to fall 3-2 to the Warhawks Friday night.
Junior outside hitter Nathalia Medeiros broke her West Alabama record against AUM with 18 kills to lead the West Alabama offense. Desiree Blount also had an excellent performance to record 34 assists for a season-high.
On the defensive side of the ball, Mackenzie Wells had 15 digs, and Amelia Johnigan recorded five blocks. Johnigan also led the team in aces with two.
As a team, West Alabama recorded 45 kills on 131 total attacks. Defensively, the team recorded 50 digs with one solo block and 10 block assists.
West Alabama will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 2 when they travel to West Florida. The first serve is set for 2 p.m. CT/ 3 p.m. ET.
