Three Tigers Posted Double-Doubles to Lead UWA to a 67-46 Victory Over West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Bria Dent, Tazsa Garrett-Hammett, and Jala Williams all posted a double-double to lead the West Alabama women's basketball team to a 67-46 victory over West Georgia Monday afternoon at the Coliseum. 

With the win, the Tigers are 9-3 on the season and 3-1 in GSC play. The Wolves dropped to 4-5 overall and are now 1-3 in the conference.

Dent posted her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and collecting 14 rebounds. Garrett-Hammett scored 14 points and brought down 11 boards. Williams recorded her first double-double of the season. The Tallahassee, Florida native had 11 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Zoe Watts chipped in 10 points and brought down six boards.

In the first quarter, West Georgia made a three-pointer to give the Wolves a 3-0 advantage over the Tigers. UWA responded by going on a 11-4 run to take control of the game and push ahead of UWG 11-7.

With 2:08 remaining in the first quarter, the Tigers got outscored by the Wolves 10-7 to close out the first period with West Georgia leading 17-15. 

The first points for the Tigers in the second quarter came at the 7:26 mark when Watts drained both her free throws. With 5:12 minutes remaining in the period, Lauryn Lilly Garrett-Hammett, Williams, and Dent scored a combined total of eight points to cut the Wolves' lead to 26-25. William's fast break layup at the 1:51 mark allowed the Tigers to lead with a one-point advantage over the Wolves 27-26. 

West Alabama closed out the second quarter 31-29 before halftime and kept the lead for the rest of the game.

The Tigers had a big third quarter, outscoring the Wolves 21-6. Dent scored eight points, Watts and Williams added four points, Jada Golden chipped in three points, and Garrett-Hammett had two points to end the third quarter with a 52-35 advantage over the UWG.

West Alabama won the fourth quarter 15-11 to close out the game with a 67-46 victory over West Georgia. 

As a unit, UWA shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor and a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line. 

UWG Ranajah Verdell posted a double-double for the Wolves. She had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers limited the Wolves to shooting 27.4 percent (17-of-62) from the floor and 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from the free throw line. 

West Alabama dominated the paint scoring 48 points compared to West Georgia's 18 points. The Tigers turned the Wolves 14 turnovers into 22 points.

UWA hosts West Florida in a GSC matchup on Friday, Dec. 31. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
