LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's basketball team will see split competition this week with one out of conference game at home against the University of Tennessee Southern and one in conference contest against West Georgia on the road. The Tigers will host the Firehawks on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and will travel to Carrollton, Ga. for a 6:30 p.m. matchup on Thursday, Dec. 9.
All UWA home and conference games will be broadcast live on SLY104.9 with commentary by Mark Gilliam. Home competition will stream live on the West Alabama athletics YouTube page with live stats on the website.
The Tigers enter this week 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play after a Saturday loss to Delta State. UWA started off strong against the Statesman, seeing a 15-point lead in the first half. However, well timed three-pointers in the final period by DSU led to the Tigers 62-55 loss in Cleveland, Miss. Robert led UWA with 13 points.
Junior guard Kortrijk Miles heads the West Alabama offense, playing in all eight games for seven starts. The Dallas, Texas native leads the team, averaging 18.9 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Shardarrion Allen is the only other Tiger seeing double-digits this season. The Bolton, Miss. native averages 11.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Tennessee Southern comes to Livingston 7-3 after defeating the University of Pikeville 63-62 on Saturday. In the contest Mohamed ElGohary led the Firehawks with 25 points and four rebounds. He also leads UTS this season, averaging 15.6 points per game.
West Georgia is 3-4 this season and 1-1 in the league, defeating Valdosta State 86-79 on Saturday. Kadeim Jones led the Wolves against the Blazers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Seth Brown-Carter is UWG season's leading scorer, averaging 16.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds.
West Georgia leads the series against West Alabama, 46-27. The Tigers last faced the Wolves in 2020 when they defeated UWG 73-69 on the road.
