Tigers Win Fourth Straight

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Colden Peeples took advantage of his first start of the season, collecting two hits and driving in three runs, to lead West Alabama to its fourth straight win, 10-8, over Christian Brothers Friday at Tartt Field.

After an 0-3 start, West Alabama is now 4-3 overall and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference play. UWA is also an undefeated 4-0 at Tartt Field. Christian Brothers is 0-7 and 0-7. The Tigers and Bucs are scheduled to finish the three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at Tartt Field. First pitch is 1 p.m.

"It took a while and wasn't especially pretty, but I learned a long time ago to be thankful for every win," UWA head coach Gary Rundles said. "We got behind four different times but did what we needed to do to answer back and win the game."

With the game tied 8-8 after seven innings, West Alabama pushed across two runs in the eighth and Mason Hollander pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth to preserve the West Alabama win.

The two pitching staffs combined to walk 15 and there were seven errors in the game. Additionally there were five passed balls and two wild pitches to add to a game that lasted three hours and 24 minutes.

JP Elkins (1-0) earned the pitching win for UWA, not allowing an earned run on three hits over three innings in relief of starter Gavin Rogers. Hollander picked up his second save. CBU reliever Charlie Seahorn (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Jonathan Baldelli.

Brayden Lyman also had a pair of hits for the Tigers, including a one-out triple in the seventh inning. He then scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Gavin Rogers drove in four runs with a single, sac fly and a fielder's choice.

CBU leadoff man Keagan Voss collected three of the Bucs 12 hits. J.D. Goodpseed, Reid Voss and Luke Wewers also contributed two hits each. Wewers drove in four runs with a single and his first home run of the season.
