Tigers Dispatch of MUW in Straight Sets

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team wasted no time Wednesday night as the Tigers defeated the Mississippi University for Women Owls in straight sets in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. 
 
UWA moved to 2-3 on the spring season and MUW fell to 1-6 on the year.
 
"We did a great job this evening, executing things that we have worked on in recent practices," said head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "Our attacking improved, and we hope to continue to progress."
 
The Tigers (25-16, 25-12, 25-8) offense hummed to the tune of a .293 total attack percentage with 30 kills and only 10 errors in 92 attacks on the night for the team. The defense posted 12 total blocks with 18 block assists and three solo blocks. 
 
West Alabama only ever trailed in the first set when the Owls got up to a 6-4 lead after a kill from Hallie Goodwin. UWA responded with a seven-point run capped by a kill from Ally Craig to go up 11-6 at the team never looked back on the way to the 3-0 victory.
 
Madison Fisher led the way for UWA with 12 kills on the night with a .389 attack percentage and added three service aces. Craig posted a .389 attack percentage while providing eight kills on the evening and six total blocks. 
 
Desiree Blount continued her stellar spring with 20 assists and added three block assists on the front row while Lily Jackson passed 12 assists as well.
 
MacKenzie Wells once again led the team with 16 digs and helped offensively with three assists. Amelia Johnigan turned in a monster performance on the front row with seven total blocks thanks to six block assists and one solo block while Ja'Bria Green posted three block assists and a solo block for four total blocks on the evening. 
 
Lacey Evans led the Owls defensive effort with 15 digs while Loren Schmitt reached double-digit digs as well with 10. Ricki-Jill Burrough led MUW with five kills. 
 
As a team, The W finished with a -.032 attacking percentage with 19 kills and 24 errors on 97 attacks. 
 
West Alabama returns to action and Gulf South Conference Group A competition March 13 at 2 p.m. as the Tigers host Union. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
