Tigers Put on Solid Showing at Jag Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. —Competing against a plethora of NCAA Division I teams, the University of West Alabama track and field team finished top ten in several events including a second-place result Friday at the 2021 Jag Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama at Jaguar Track. 
 
"I'm very proud of the way our student-athletes competed today," said Head coach Kirby Patterson Walker. "Several personal bests were set, and their confidence is continuing to build."
 
The team of Zavannah Brown, Savannah Williams, Jailah Swain and Alexis Sturdivant combined to earn second place in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:59.87 and just slightly less than a second behind the winning team from Southeast Missouri who won in 3:58.04.
 
Kyle Rock placed fourth in the 800-meters in 1:59.75 while Kelvin Poe finished the 400-meters in 50.44 seconds for a sixth-place finish. In the men's 1500-meters, Audrick Pyronneau came in seventh with a time of 4:06.02
 
Sturdivant turned in the best solo performance for the women's team with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 58.68 seconds.
 
In the women's 100-meters, Annaya Chelcy placed seventh in 12.38 seconds and her teammate Myflore Methelus came in eighth in 12.44 seconds. Kirsten Eason turned in an eight-place finish in the 800-meters in 2:26.10 while Stephanie Barrett placed 10th with a time of 2:28.49.
 
Jailah Swain turned in another quality performance in the 400-meter hurdles as she came in sixth in the even in 1:07.59 while Zavannah Brown came in ninth in 1:09.09. 
 
No weekends off for the Tigers as the team will head to Montevallo, Alabama next weekend for the Montevallo Falcon Classic on March 19 and March 20. To keep up with results from the two-day event hosted by the University of Montevallo, keep an eye on uwaathletics.com.
