MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition at the GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with an impressive final day performance, as the Tigers produced their most productive showing of the three-day meet on Friday.
Day three was highlighted by multiple individual champions, a few podium finishes, and strong relay performances that capped off a competitive weekend for UWA.
Leading the way,
Dedric Hicks captured the GSC Outdoor Championship in the men's shot put (also captured the GSC Indoor Championship, earlier this year), winning the event with a throw of 16.05 meters and scoring 10 points for the Tigers. Hicks' victory marked one of the premier performances of the meet for West Alabama.
On the track,
J'Da Williams continued her dominant freshman campaign, claiming the women's 100-meter title with a time of 11.49. Teammate
Adria Burrell followed with a runner-up finish (11.88), while
Jocelyn Randle added a fifth-place finish (12.00), giving UWA three scorers in the final.
Williams also added another podium finish in the women's 200 meters, placing third with a personal-best time of 24.10. Randle (8th) and Burrell (9th) also scored in the event, continuing the Tigers' strong presence in the sprints.
On the men's side,
Lawrence Walker delivered a pair of scoring performances, finishing fourth in the 100 meters (10.76) and fifth in the 200 meters (21.83).
Jalen Green added a podium finish in the 110-meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 14.80.
In the field events,
Jaxson Lovelace secured a sixth-place finish in the men's javelin throw (53.46m), while
Rita Walker added a fourth-place finish in the women's javelin (37.69m).
The Tigers also saw success in the relays, particularly on the women's side. The quartet of
J'Da Williams, Jocelyn Randle, D'Kota Hudson, and
Adria Burrell raced to a conference title in the women's 4x100-meter relay, clocking a season-best 45.81. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of
Kilaya Lucien, Burrell, Jamaya Dancy, and
Randle added a third-place finish (3:58.64).
On the men's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of
Landon Laphand, ShaKenye Darden, Michael Harris, and
Tyrese Pitts placed third with a season-best time of 3:17.68, while the 4x100-meter relay team also scored with a fifth-place finish (41.21).
Additional scoring performances on day three included
Kiona McCallister (5th, women's 400-meter hurdles),
Kilaya Lucien (7th, women's 400 meters), and
Landon Laphand (7th, men's 400 meters).
Earlier in the meet, the Tigers also saw key contributions from distance events, including
Mercy Lomuria, who placed fourth in the women's 10,000 meters to score valuable points.
At the end of the GSC Outdoor Championships, West Alabama saw both their men's and women's team place fifth overall.
With a championship performance, multiple podium finishes, and a standout final day, the Tigers closed the GSC Outdoor Championships with momentum as they now turn their focus toward NCAA postseason competition.
