MC Picks up Win over Tigers

CLINTON, Miss. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team fell short in a non-conference match against Mississippi College Lady Choctaws Thursday night in straight sets in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

MC (25-19, 25-11, 25-18) improved to 5-1 on the unique spring season while the Tigers fell to 2-5 overall.

"We took a few steps backwards today, as a team," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "We plan to regroup and show something better on Saturday."

The West Alabama attack could not get going tonight as the team posted 22 kills and 23 errors on 109 total attacks for a -.009 attacking percentage.

UWA put on an impressive run in the third set to try to stave off a sweep. Down 23-12 in the final set, the Tigers scored six straight points capped by a kill from Ti'Oszalon Hill to bring the game to 23-18. However, the Lady Choctaws used kills from Gwenyth Prenter and Lexie Laurendine put the set away and clinched the match for MC, 3-0.

Je'Bria Green led the Tigers with six kills while Ally Craig, Madison Fisher and Beatriz Giordan each had four kills. Desiree Blount passed 11 assists while Lily Jackson contributed six assists.

The defensive effort was once again led by MacKenzie Wells. The junior libero has posted the most digs in every match she has played in as a Tiger and kept the streak going tonight with 14 digs.

Kendall Platt posted 13 kills to lead Mississippi College and also added 10 digs. Lexie Laurendine passed 19 assists while Levi Lennard added 12 assists.

As a whole, MC's offense moved to the tune of a .214 attack percentage with 40 kills and 16 errors on 112 total attacks.

West Alabama returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. in a Gulf South Conference Group A match against Alabama Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama. Game links are available on uwaathletics.com.
