Tigers Fall in Spring Season Finale to UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – It was not the desired end to the regular portion of the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series for the University of West Alabama volleyball team as the Tigers fell in straight sets, 3-0, to the Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers Saturday afternoon in Group A action in Spragins Hall.
 
UWA finished the season 2-6 overall and 1-3 in GSC Group A while UAH (25-13, 25-19, 25-12) improved to 3-1 on both the season and league play. 
 
"We have some adjustments to make before our next match, but we look forward to whatever challenge we may face," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein
 
The Tigers led for moments in both the first and third set. In the opening game, West Alabama turned a 7-4 deficit to an 11-8 lead thanks to a started by a kill from Ally Craig and capped by a kill from Ti'Oszalon Hill. UAH went on to win the set 25-13.
 
In the third set, the Lady Chargers started with a 2-0 lead before UWA scored five of the next seven points to take a 5-4 lead finished by a Kill from Craig and an assist from Desiree Blount. Unfortunately, the Tigers could not keep the momentum and fell in the final set 25-12.
 
Craig, Beatriz Giordan and Madison Fisher all finished with five kills to lead the team while Je'Bria Green was just behind them with four. Green also finished with four block assists. Blount passed 12 assists and Lily Jackson finished with nine. 
 
Fisher led the back row with nine kills while MacKenzie Wells and Heloisa Niespodzinski posted six each. Hill led the front row with five block assists. 
 
As a team the Tigers posted a .088 attack percentage with 25 kills and 16 errors on 102 total attacks. 
 
Alabama Huntsville finished with 45 kills and nine errors on 92 attacks for a .392 attack percentage. 
 
Abby Brooks led the Lady Chargers with 15 kills while Kendall Scharbert added 11. Sabrina Duncan passed 27 assists while Shayla Libby posted 10 digs to lead the back row.
 
West Alabama returns to action Friday, March 26 for the first round of the GSC Spring Championship Series postseason tournament and will face Shorter (1-8, 1-4 GSC Group B) in Trustmark Arena as the University of Montevallo will host the match. The time of the match has not been determined as of this writing, but the information will be posted on uwaathletics.com.
