Montgomery, Ala. - West Alabama men's soccer team defeated Faulkner 3-0 in a non-conference matchup Thursday night in Montgomery.
West Alabama improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in GSC play. Faulkner is now 1-6-1 overall and 0-2 in league play.
"It was a great squad performance tonight," UWA head coach Ross Nelson said. "The lads put in a shift and battled until the very end. We were eager to put our last performance and result right and we did exactly that. We controlled the game in and out of possession and controlled our emotions very well."
UWA out shot the Eagles, 10-3, and won the shots on goal battle, 4-2.
The Tigers started their offense strong with the first goal by Ethan Acton off an assist by Hugo Courchinoux with 34:42 minutes remaining in the first half. Peter Oyetunji added a goal late in the first half with 6:06 minutes remaining.
UWA rounded out their scoring with 5:15 minutes left in the second half by Vince Stans off an assist from Lucas Hart to set the final at 3-0.
Harold Leighton finished with two saves in the victory over the Eagles.
"We have a massive game coming up this Sunday against a top team in the GSC, Mississippi College. As always, we will now focus on recovery and make sure we are ready for Sunday," Nelson said.
The Tigers return to action Sunday as the team travels to Clinton to take on Mississippi College at 3:30 p.m.
