Clinton, Miss. - The Choctaws goal in the second half allowed Mississippi College to grab a 1-0 victory over the Tigers Sunday evening at Robert P. Longabaugh Field on the campus of Clinton High School.
West Alabama falls to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in GSC play. Mississippi College improved to 4-0 both overall and in league play.
"I don't think the result is a fair reflection on how the match actually played out," UWA head coach Ross Nelson said. "For the majority of the game we were in control and limited Mississippi College to very little chances. On the ball we got into some really good areas and caused them a lot of problems;however, we just lacked that final bit of quality in the end."
Aaron Martin scored his first goal of the season at the 56:56 mark.
The Choctaws out shot the Tigers, 11-5, and won the shot on goal battle, 4-1.
Tom Lartigue led the Tigers with one shot and one shot on goal. Harold Leighton kept the Tigers in the match with three saves.
Seven yellow cards and 26 fouls were called in the matchup as the Choctaws were called for 12 and the Tigers called for 14.
"As a whole it was a good performance by us tonight, with a little lapse in concentration being the main difference. We will take many positives from this, and as always, we will now shift all our focus to our next game," Nelson said.
UWA returns to action for their last GSC regular season game Saturday against Union at Tiger Stadium. The match is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
