Tigers Swept at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State used a walk-off walk to win game one and then cruised to a game two victory in a Gulf South Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of West Alabama Sunday at Billy Grant Field. The Blazers won the first game, 7-6, and then took the nightcap, 19-4.

Valdosta State improved to 16-12 overall, 14-11 in GSC play with the sweep, snapping a six-game losing skid. West Alabama is now 11-13 overall and 9-12 in GSC play.

West Alabama took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning in game one, but Valdosta State rallied for three runs on three hits and a pair of walks to score the walk-off win. Logan Stephens drew the bases-loaded base on balls to score Jowenrick Daantji for the game-winning run.

Valdosta State used 14 hits, nine walks and five hit batters to cruise to the win in the nightcap. The Blazers 19 runs are the most scored against West Alabama in nine years. Montevallo put up 20 on the Tigers in a 20-10 win on Feb. 29 , 2012.
