Lee Sweeps Doubleheader, Series at UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Second-ranked Lee combined for 27 runs on 34 hits on the way to a Gulf South Conference doubleheader sweep over West Alabama Sunday at Tartt Field. The Flames won the opener, 13-5, and the second game, 14-4.
 
Already at the top of the GSC standings, Lee improved to 28-4 overall and 23-3 in GSC play with a sweep of the three-game series. West Alabama is 11-17 and 9-15. The Tigers are enduring a six-game losing skid and have now lost seven straight home games.
 
Of the Flames 34 hits, 11 were for extra bases as Lee had six doubles, a triple and four home runs in the doubleheader. West Alabama pitchers also walked 11 and hit three batters over the course of the two games.
 
Lee third baseman Alan Smith was 6-for-8 with four doubles and a homer in the twinbill. Colton Yeager was 6-for-9 with a double. Ryan Beamish collected four hits in the two games, including his 15th and 16th homers. Five more Flames collected three hits apiece, including Dylan Standifer's third homer.
 
Josh Bower, Jacobey Hawthorne and Jake Nemith each contributed three hits in a two-game 15 hit attack for West Alabama. Nemith had a pair of doubles. Bower also doubled. Nick Sims drove in two runs in the doubleheader.
 
Lee relievers Alan Rickman (2-0) and Alan Carter (5-1) were credited with the wins. Rickman allowed four hits and no earned runs while striking out two over 3.2 innings in the opener. Carter worked three innings in the second game, allowing no runs and just one hit while striking out four.
 
West Alabama starters Connor Brooks (2-5) and Javian Stone absorbed the losses. Brooks allowed nine hits and seven earned runs while striking out two over three innings of work. Stone lasted two innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs while striking out three.
 
West Alabama used 10 pitchers in the doubleheader. Lee send eight to the mound.
 
West Alabama is scheduled to step outside GSC play with a four-game series against Spring Hill (14-12) on Friday and Saturday at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. and Saturday's twinbill starts at 1 p.m. Lee plays Wednesday at Young Harris (Ga.) College.
