LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama sweeps Spring Hill College in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex. The Tigers defeat the Badgers 5-4 in game one and 12-4 in game two.
With the wins, they Tigers improved to 17-19 overall and 11-16 in GSC play. Spring Hill drops to 14-12 overall.
Game One
The Tigers rallied in the seventh to pass Spring Hill and take the 5-4 win in game one.
In the second, Grace Self RBI single scored Abby McKee.
The Badgers had a big fourth inning with three runs to put Spring Hill up 3-1.
West Alabama added one run in the fourth when Grace Self homered to cut the lead to 3-2.
Spring Hill led 4-2 going into the seventh before the Tigers rallied and added three runs. The winning run happened when Chrissy Tubbs reached base on an error on the SHC shortstop and Cassie Matlock scored on the play.
Self led the Tigers and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Kaeleigh Crutchfield was the winning pitcher in relief for the Tigers. The junior pitcher improved to 4-1 on the season.
Game Two
West Alabama led early to defeat the Badgers 12-4 in game two of the doubleheader.
The Tigers started off strong in the first with a big 11-0 lead over Spring Hill. Kendall Johnson's sacrifice bunt scored Matlock to lead the Tigers 1-0. Noland added a run off Tubbs RBI single.
Bases were loaded and Peyton Coots hit a grand slam scoring Self, Tubbs, and McKee giving the Tigers a huge 6-0 lead. This was Coots fourth home run of the season.
The Tigers weren't done yet as they continued to add five more runs in the first. Matlock RBI double scored Lexy House and Kailey Hunt. McKee singled to the right side allowing Matlock to score. Tubbs closed out the inning earning herself two RBIs, scoring McKee and Noland. This put the Tigers up 11-0.
Spring Hill got on the scoreboard in the fourth earning two runs. They also added two more runs in the fifth to finalize their runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, West Alabama closed out the game by Coots RBI single scoring Caleigh Wallace.
Peyton Coots led UWA in game two going 2-for-3 with five RBIs and one run.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader in Clinton, Mississippi against the Choctaws of Mississippi College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
