Lyman, Nemith Earn All-GSC Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Alabama third baseman Jake Nemith and outfielder Brayden Lyman have earned a spot on the 2021 All-Gulf South Conference Baseball Team. Both are second-team selections.
 
"I am very proud of Jake and Brayden," UWA head coach Gary Rundles said. "Their selection to the GSC All-Conference team is well deserved. Although as a team we struggled, they consistently delivered day in and day out."
 
Lyman, a junior outfielder from Land O' Lakes, Florida, led the Tigers in hitting with a .369 batting average despite missing the last eight games of the season with an injury. In 26 games, all starts, Lyman contributed eight doubles, a triple, a home run and 16 runs batted in. He stole six bases in seven attempts and committed just two errors in 58 total chances.
 
A junior third basemen from Pace, Florida, Nemith is the only UWA player to both play in and start all 34 games in a COVID-shortened season. His .367 batting average was second only to Lyman and he led the team with six home runs batting in the leadoff spot. His nine doubles were also a team best and he also drive in 15 runs. He stole five bases in six attempts.
 
Nemith led the Tigers with 16 multi-hit games and ended the season with a team-leading 15-game hitting streak. He also closed the season with a 126-game reached base streak, also the longest of the season for any Tiger. Lyman closed the year with a 15-game reached base streak, nine multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games.
 
West Georgia's Dan Oberst has been named GSC player of the year, Shorter's Jonathan Pintaro is the league's pitcher of the year and Shorter's Jacob Pajer is the GSC freshman of the year. Lee's Mark Brew earned GSC coach of the year honors.
