Men's Basketball Heads to AUM on Wednesday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's basketball team looks to bounce back from a loss at Lee, traveling east to face Auburn University – Montgomery on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The game was initially scheduled to start at 7 p.m. but has now been moved to a 6:30 p.m. tipoff inside the AUM Athletics Complex.

As usual, Mark Gilliam will bring the play-by-play on SLY104.9, and a live stream and live stats will be provided by AUM.

The Tigers enter Wednesday's competition 12-3 overall and 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference, after falling 66-63 to Lee University on Saturday.

West Alabama averages 71.9 points per game while allowing 58.3 points per game. The Tigers shoot 45.6 percent from the floor, including 27.0 percent in three-point range. At the line, UWA makes 77.0 percent of its free throws.

West Alabama's starting five represent some of the best the GSC offers. Kortrijk Miles is a staple of the Tiger starting line and has been named GSC Player of the Week three times this season. The Dallas, Texas native leads the conference in scoring and rebounding, averaging 20.3 points per game and 8.3 boards per game. He has also recorded five double-doubles so far.

The Tigers second-leading scorer is Shardarrion Allen. The Bolton, Miss. native averages 12.7 points per game and 6.1 rebounds. Allen received GSC Player of the Week earlier this year after a career performance against Palm Beach Atlantic with 24 points and 15 rebounds. He has also tallied three double-doubles this season.

West Alabama's starting lineup also includes Justin Allison, who averages 4.0 assists per game to rank third in the GSC, Robert Davis, who is among the top-ten in the GSC in free throw percentage (.833), and Te Smith, who leads the team in 3-point field goals per game.

The Tigers are in their second season under the leadership of head coach Nick Woodruff. In his second season, Woodruff coached UWA to its best start in program history. UWA is ranked sixth in the 2021-22 D2SIDA South Region Poll and stands at No. 4 in the conference.

Auburn Montgomery is 6-9 on the season and 3-4 in the GSC. Michael Cheaney is in his eighth season as the head coach of the Warhawks and holds an 80-123 record with the team.

AUM averages 75.4 points per game while shooting .456 from the field and .287 in three-point range. Isaiah Hart leads the offense with 17.5 points per game, and Jeremiah Bozeman leads in rebounds with 7.5 per game.
