Four Tigers Scored in Double Figures to Lead UWA to a 90-85 Victory Over CBU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball had four Tigers score in double figures to claim the 90-85 victory over Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. With the win, the Tigers improved to 11-4 on the season and are now 5-2 in GSC play. 

Bria Dent scored 28 points with nine rebounds. The Birmingham, Ala. native went 8-for-16 from the field, 2-for-3 from the three point line, and 10-for-11 from the free throw line.

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett added 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Jada Golden had a season-high of 17 points, six assists, and two rebounds.  

Lauryn Lilly added 10 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Justyna Butler contributed six points and two assists. Zoe Watts had four points and four assists. Mia McCarthy added three points, while Rose Smith had two points to round out the Tigers' scoring. 

Junior guard Golden started the scoring off the Tigers at the 9:42 mark. Eight of Golden's points came in the first quarter. Dent added seven points, and Garrett-Hammett drained her two free throws to close out the quarter with a 17-14 lead. 

In the second quarter, Dent scored nine points, Butler and Lilly added three points, while Smith chipped in two points. The Buccaneers out scored the Tigers 24-17 to take the lead over 41-34 heading into halftime. 

Coming out of the half, UWA had its best quarter. The Tigers outscored the Buccaneers 33-17 to claim the 67-58 lead over CBU. The Tigers held onto the lead in the fourth quarter to claim the 90-85 victory of the Buccaneers. 

UWA shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field and 92 percent (25-of-27) from the free throw line. 

CBU Yaya Coleman led the Buccaneers with 30 points and six rebounds. 

Christian Brothers shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the floor, 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

UWA heads to Montevallo, Ala. on Wednesday, Jan. 19 to battle Montevallo in a GSC matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Trustmark Arena.
