Valdosta State Defeats UWA 64-51 in a GSC Matchup

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- West Alabama women's basketball team took a 64-51 defeat from Valdosta State Sunday afternoon in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

The Tigers dropped to 10-4 on the season and are now 4-2 in GSC play. The Blazers improved to 11-2 overall and are now 6-1 in the conference. 

Bria Dent led the Tigers offense with 18 points and 14 rebounds, posting her eighth double-double. Zoe Watts scored 13 points and three rebounds. Tazsa Garrett-Hammett added eighth points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

As a unit, UWA shot 40.9 percent (18-of-44) from the floor and 76.5 (13-of-17) percent from the free throw line. 

In the first quarter, Valdosta State outscored West Alabama 17-13. The Tigers battled back in the second quarter and defeated the Blazers 15-13, with VSU keeping the lead 30-28 before heading into halftime. 

Coming out of the break, the Blazers outscored the Tigers in the third and fourth quarter to close out the game with a 64-51 victory over UWA.

VSU Kwajelin Farrar led the Blazers with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Valdosta State shot 50 percent (25-of-50) from the floor, 44.4 (8-of-18) percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.  

West Alabama had 20 points in the paints compared to Valdosta State's 16 points.

UWA heads to Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday, Jan. 8 to battle Lee University in a GSC matchup. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Paul Dana Walker Arena.
