Men’s Soccer Falls in Tight Road Non-Conference Contest Against Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In another physical battle, the West Alabama men's soccer team tried to make a late comeback at Alabama Huntsville before falling just short by a score of 2-1 Saturday evening at Charger Park.

There were 19 fouls whistled and a total of 11 yellow cards handed out. There were also a high volume of shots with the teams combining for 35 shots, 19 by West Alabama. The Tigers also held the 8-5 edge in shots on goal. UWA also held a strong advantage in corner kicks at 11-3.

Alabama Huntsville (3-8-3) opened the scoring right away in the 11th minute for the early 1-0 lead. UAH used a strong 11-5 shots advantage in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the locker rooms.

UWA (5-3-5) then flipped the script holding the 14-5 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes. Just a few minutes into the second half, Adrian Evrard ripped a shot on goal just over four minutes in that was saved. The Tigers kept the pressure up with Alex Fernandez taking a shot that just missed, followed by two straight shots from Ellis Williamson.

Despite all the extra heat put on by the Tiger offense, Alabama Huntsville doubled the lead with a goal in the 62nd minute for the 2-0 lead.

Harry Colville and Evrard added shots on goal that were again turned away to keep the lead at 2-0. Finally in the 82nd minute, Patrick Sacher continued his hot streak when he took a pass from Killian Griffin and scored the goal to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

UWA had a few more looks over the final minutes to draw even. In the 86th minute, another shot by Sacher was saved which resulted in a corner kick. Nothing came of the corner kick and Alabama Huntsville was able to hold off UWA over the final few minutes to claim the 2-1 victory.

Sacher led the way with five shots (four on goal). Evrard and Williamson each added three shots, with Evrard landing two on target. Garret Wise started in goal and made three saves.
