UWA Volleyball Dropped Two Matches to Close Out South Region Crossover Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The West Alabama volleyball team dropped two matches at the South Region Crossover tournament Saturday afternoon at the Finley Center. The Tigers dropped to 6-18 overall. 
 
The Tigers fell to Saint Leo 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18) in the first match of the day and Spring Hill 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-12) in the final match of the tournament. 
 
UWA vs. Saint Leo
Ally Craig led UWA attackers with seven kills against Saint Leo. Nathalia Medeiros and Madison Fisher both added six kills. Amelia Johnigan and Fisher both had two blocks. Maddie Van Dyke dished out 14 assists, and Chyna Dixon had 13. MacKenzie Wells and Quiara Dunson each had five digs. 
 
The Tigers claimed the first point of the opening set off a kill from Medeiros. UWA had the 4-1 lead, but Saint Leo went on a 5-0 run to gain the 10-5 advantage. The Lions led the rest of the game to claim the first set, 25-17. 
 
Saint Leo jumped to a 12-4 lead to start the second set. The two teams traded points, but the Lions claimed the final five points of the set to take set two, 25-16. 
 
The Lions raced to a 12-5 lead in the third set, but UWA trimmed the gap to 14-11. Saint Leo won the third set with a 25-18 victory and claimed the 3-0 win over UWA.
 
Four Lions each had four kills to lead Saint Leo's offense. Ally-Reese Williams collected five digs. Tajma Muharemovic had 12 assists. 
 
The Lions held the edge in aces (11-5), blocks (8-3), and digs (20-16). UWA had the advantage in kills (30-25) and assists (28-23). 
 
UWA vs. Spring Hill 
Both teams went back and forth in the opening set before the Badgers went on a 7-1 run to take the  13-7 lead. Spring Hill claimed set one with a 25-16 win. 
 
The Badgers took an 11-4 lead to start the second set. A kill from Johnigan ended the run. Craig added another kill to trim the lead to 11-6. Both teams traded points before the Badgers went on a 6-0 run. Spring Hill closed the game with a 25-11 win and claimed the 3-0 victory. 
 
Fisher led the Tigers with seven kills. Dunson collected 12 digs. Wells added 11 digs. Van Dyke dished out 12 assists, while Dixon added 11.
 
Kassandra Fairly led the Badgers with 12 kills and three blocks. Mikayla Boyer collected a match-high of 14 digs. Jessica Fairly had 24 assists in the matchup. 
 
The Tigers return to the court on Friday to take on Shorter in a GSC matchup in Rome, Georgia.
