UWA Volleyball Drops Road Contest Against Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - West Alabama dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-22) Gulf South Conference match to Lee University Saturday afternoon inside Paul Dana Walker Arena. The Tigers dropped to 6-20 overall and are 1-10 in GSC play. The Flames improved to 7-20 overall and are now 4-7 in the conference. 
 
Nathalia Medeiros and Johanna Martin both posted seven kills in the matchup. Ally Craig added six kills. MacKenzie Wells tallied 15 digs. Maddie Van Dyke dished out 15 assists and tallied 13 digs. 
 
Lee jumped to a 9-0 lead to start set one. A Flames error and a kill from Martin allowed the Tigers to end the run and trim the lead to 9-2. The Flames closed out set one with a 25-17 win. 
 
The Flames started set two with a 6-2 advantage over the Tigers. Lee had another big 5-0 run to claim the final points and end set two with a 25-16 victory. 
 
West Alabama started set three off with a 4-1 lead. The Tigers extended the lead to 7-5 before the Flames went on a 5-0 run to take control of the game, 9-7. The Tigers went on a 5-0 run to advance the lead to 16-12. The Flames responded with another 5-0 run and made another lead change, 17-16. Lee claimed the final points in the matchup and closed set three out with a 25-22 win and claimed the 3-0 victory. 
 
Lee held the edge in kills (33-25), blocks (11-4), and assists (30-22). UWA had the advantage in digs (47-46) and aces (9-7). 
 
Lee's outside hitter Hannah Upton paces the Flames with 10 kills and nine digs. Ashton Middleton dished out 17 assists. Abby Stroh tallied 15 digs. Scottie Cook sent back seven blocks. 
 
 The Tigers return to action on Tuesday as they host Mississippi College in a GSC matchup. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
