Johnigan Led the Tigers in Kills in Midweek Matchup Against Mississippi College

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's volleyball took a 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-14) defeat from Mississippi College Tuesday evening inside Pruitt Hall. 

The Tigers dropped to 6-21 overall and are 1-11 in GSC play. The Choctaws improved to 21-4 overall and are 10-2 in the conference. 

Amelia Johnigan led the Tigers with four kills and spun in two service aces. MacKenzie Wells tallied 10 digs in the matchup. Maddie Van Dyke dished out 16 assists. 

The Choctaws jumped to a 10-2 lead to start the first set. UWA responded with a 5-0 run, improving the score to 10-7. The two teams traded points before UWA went on a 3-09 run to trim Mississippi College's lead to 18-15. The Choctaws claimed the final six points to take set one, 25- 20. 

UWA started set two with a 4-1 lead. The Choctaws went on a 5-2 run to make the score 6-6. Mississippi College then took the lead and ended set two with a 13-0 run to come away with a 25-9 victory. 

Mississippi College jumped to a 4-0 lead to start the third set. A big block from Martin and Medeiros ended the run. Both teams exchanged points making the score 10-7. The Choctaws went on a 8-1 run to improve their lead to 18-8. MC won the final seven points of the set to take set three 25-14 and claim the 3-0 victory over the Tigers. 

Kendall Platt tallied nine kills, nine digs, and sent back five blocks. Lexie Laurendine dished out 23 assists. 

The Tigers return to the court on Friday as they face AUM. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
