Five Tigers Scored in Double Figures in the 87-56 Win Over Albany State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball claimed a 31-point victory over Albany State 87-56 Sunday evening inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. The Tigers improved to 2-0 this weekend. Albany State dropped to 0-2.

"I'm proud of the guys for their effort to defend this weekend," said head Nick Woodruff said. "Those are tough games to play in when you have a lead like that, but I feel like our guys stayed on the edge."

"We had five guys in double figures and 20 assists. Having balance in our scoring is great for our team," Woodruff said. "Our guys shouldn't feel like they have to squeeze one off because we share the ball and it will get back to them."

Five Tigers scored in double figures. Justin Allison led UWA with 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Shardarrion Allen posted 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Kuran Garner had 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Terry Durham added 11 points and eight rebounds. Trevor Dennis had 10 points and three rebounds.

UWA shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) from the field, 50 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc, and 65 percent (26-of-40) from the free throw line.

With 14:49 minutes remaining in the half, UWA had a big 12-0 run. Allen made a jumper, then Allison drained three three-pointers and a free throw. The Tigers headed into half up by 16 points, 37-21.

UWA rallied in the second half, scoring 50 points compared to the Golden Rams' 35 points. The Tigers shot 60.8 percent from the field in the second half, allowing them to claim the 87-56 win over Albany State.

Maurice Dickson led the Golden Rams with 18 points. Maxwell Harris added 12 points and four assists during the matchup. Andy Antoine had six rebounds.

The Golden Rams shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field, 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the free throw line.

The Tigers turned the Golden Rams' 17 turnovers into 19 points. UWA won in bench points, 25-14. Albany State held the advantage for points in the paint, 28-24.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday against Montevallo. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. inside Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama.

"I told the guys in the locker room that this was a good weekend but we have to be our own worst critic and continue to be hard on ourselves to make sure we stay on the edge," Woodruff added. "We will take tomorrow off and show up Tuesday like we lost our last game."
