Men’s Basketball Opens GSC Play on Saturday at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball team opens Gulf South Conference play against Montevallo on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. inside Trustmark Arena.

After hosting two home games, the Tigers head into the weekend with a 2-0 record. UWA defeated Central State 85-48 and Albany State 87-56 last weekend. Montevallo enters the game with a 1-2 overall record and is 0-1 in GSC play. The Falcons fell to West Georgia 80-75 on Nov. 16.

This is the 10th meeting between UWA and Montevallo. The Tigers lead the series, 7-2. In the latest competition, UWA defeated the Falcons 65-51 on Jan. 19.

Three Tigers are averaging double figures after two games. Kuran Garner leads the Tigers offense, averaging 17 points, 4.5 rebounds, and three steals per game. Terry Durham is averaging 14.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. Justin Allison averages 12 points, three assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. CJ Melton is leading the team in assists with nine.

Graduate student guard Braxton Bertolette leads the Falcons' offense with 23 points per game and five rebounds per game. Freshman guard MJ Jones is averaging 16 points and four rebounds per game. Mason Shifflett leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.
