Third Quarter Rally Leads Tigers to a 67-66 Victory over UAH

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball team rallied in the third quarter, scoring 32 points, to claim the 67-66 win over Alabama Huntsville Monday evening in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
 
The Tigers improved to 5-1 overall and are 3-0 in GSC play. The Chargers dropped to 1-5 overall and are 1-2 in the conference. 
 
"It was a tough start tonight, but the kids fought back hard," head coach Rusty Cram said. "I am proud of their resilience. It was a total team effort tonight."
 
Jala Williams led the Tigers with 15 points, nine assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Bria Dent posted her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points with 11 rebounds. Dent also had three assists and a steal.
 
Maryanne Logsdon dropped 13 points, had four rebounds, and dished out three assists. Zoe Watts added 10 points, two rebounds, and two steals. 
 
As a squad, UWA shot 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from the three-point range. 
 
The Chargers held a 36-26 lead over the Tigers heading into halftime. UWA rallied in the third quarter, out-scoring UAH 32-20. The Tigers had a 10-0 run in the last two minutes of the third quarter, allowing them to take the 58-56 lead over the Chargers. 
 
Down 66-64 in the fourth quarter, Aniyah Jenkins made a layup to tie the game at 66-all at the 4:14 mark. Takesia Barnes made a free throw, giving the Tigers a one-point advantage, 67-66. UWA's defense held UAH's offense for the last three minutes of the game, allowing the Tigers to claim the 67-66 win over the Chargers.
 
Haley Nichols dropped 22 points and had five rebounds in the matchup. Ellen Fleming also posted double figures and added 19 points. 
 
The Chargers shot 45.5 percent (26-of-55) from the floor, 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the free throw line. 
 
The Tigers host a GSC matchup against Shorter on Friday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
