Women’s Basketball Took a 67-54 Loss to Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. - West Alabama women's basketball team took a 67-54 Gulf South Conference loss to Delta State Sunday evening inside Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
The Tigers dropped to 7-3 overall and are 5-2 in GSC play. The Statesmen improved to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference. 
 
Jala Williams, Bria Dent, and Maryanne Logsdon all posted double figures. Williams led the Tigers with 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Dent posted 14 points and five rebounds. Logsdon added 10 points and four rebounds. 
 
Delta State jumped to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers outscored the Statesmen 13-9 in the second quarter, trimming DSU's lead to 28-22 at the half. 
 
The Statesmen posted 23 points in the third quarter. UWA scored 24 points in the fourth quarter, while DSU only scored 20, but it was not enough. Delta State came away with the 67-54 win over UWA. 
 
The Statesmen shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor, 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc, and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line. 
 
Michelle Smith led the Statesmen with 20 points, five assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Camryn Davis posted 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. 
 
The Tigers return to the court on Wednesday to host Southeastern Baptist in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
