Tigers Take Down Shorter 66-49 in GSC Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Shorter 66-49 in a Gulf South Conference matchup Friday evening inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. The Tigers improved to 6-1 overall and are 3-1 in GSC play. The Hawks dropped to 3-5 overall and are 1-3 in the conference. 
 
Three Tigers scored in double figures in the matchup. Shardarrion Allen and Terry Durham each had 15 points. Allen grabbed eight rebounds. Durham had six rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist. Justin Allison had four three-pointers, scoring 12 points. He also had two assists, a rebound, and a steal. 
 
UWA shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the floor, 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line.
 
West Alabama stayed ahead of Shorter the whole game, not allowing any lead changes. The Tigers held a 33-16 lead over the Hawks heading into halftime. 
 
In the first five minutes of the second half, UWA went on a 12-6 run. Six of those 12 points were two three-pointers, one from Allison and Allen. In the last two minutes of the game, UWA had an 11-0 run, extending the lead to 66-47. 
 
West Alabama and Shorter both scored 33 points in the second half, but the Tigers held the advantage and came away with the 66-49 win over the Hawks. 
 
UWA turned Shorter's 14 turnovers into 18 points. The Hawks held the advantage in bench points, 21-14, and points in the paint, 26-16. 
 
Ian Reith led the Hawks' offense with 14 points and three rebounds. Jaden Dunham had five rebounds and two blocks. 
 
The Hawks shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from the three-point range, and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from the foul line. 
 
The Tigers return to action on Sunday as they host Lee University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
