Tigers Come Up Short Against No. 19 Union, 58-53

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball team dropped a Gulf South Conference matchup to No. 19 Union University 58-53 Saturday evening inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. The Tigers dropped to 9-4 overall and are 6-3 in GSC play. The Bulldogs improved to 9-2 overall and are 7-2 in the conference. 
 
Two Tigers scored in double figures. Zoe Watts led the Tigers with 15 points and five rebounds. Bria Dent posted her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points with 14 rebounds. 
 
Jala Williams scored nine points, dished out six assists, and had four rebounds. Kamille Clark scored seven points and had six rebounds. Maryanne Logsdon had six points and six rebounds. Ella Noble added three points to round out the scoring for the evening. 
 
 As a squad, UWA shot 30.5 percent (18-of-59) from the floor and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the foul line. 
 
UWA jumped to a 14-10 lead to start the first quarter. Union responded with an 18-8 run in the second quarter, bringing the score to 28-22 at halftime. 
 
The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 13-11 in the third quarter, trimming Union's lead to 39-35. UWA posted 18 points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, as the Bulldogs came away with the 58-53 win. 
 
Shamariah Thompson scored 15 points and had five rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 31.5 percent (17-of-54) from the field and 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the foul line. 
 
The Tigers return to action on Monday as they face Christian Brothers in a GSC matchup. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
