LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After a four-game stretch at home, the West Alabama baseball team will travel the short distance to Birmingham, Ala., to face Miles College on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The one 9-inning game begins at 1 p.m. at Rickwood Field.
UWA (0-9) has struggled in the opening weeks of the 2022 season and looks to get its first win this year against the Golden Bears. Senior right-hand pitcher Austin Goode leads the Tigers on the mound. The Alexandria, Ala. native has made five mound appearances for 7.1 innings pitched, a 1.23 ERA, and 13 strikeouts. Thomas Boothe has played and started in three games to pitch 9.0 innings for 15 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.
Junior infielder Josh Bower leads West Alabama at the plate. The Headland, Ala. native, has plated and started in all nine games for a .417 batting average, 15 hits (three doubles), five runs, and five RBIs. Connor Christian leads the team in scoring with nine RBIs and seven runs.
Miles (2-3) will host the Tigers after sweeping Stillman in a doubleheader matchup. The Golden Bears took down SC 23-1 in the first game and 3-0 in the second. Destin Davidson leads Miles at the plate with a .352 batting average, 19 hits (eight doubles and two triples), and 10 RBIs. William Hollis leads the team on the mound with a 2-0 record, and a 1.00 ERA, with 9.0 inning pitched, five hits against, three walks, and three strikeouts.
