LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 23 West Alabama men's basketball team readies for Alabama – Huntsville as it rides a five-game winning streak and receives national poll recognition. UWA (20-4, 13-3 in the Gulf South Conference) will host UAH (15-9, 8-7) Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
The Tigers are 42-39 against the Chargers but dropped both competitions last season. West Alabama looks for its first victory against Alabama-Huntsville with head coach Nick Woodruff.
Last week, UWA defeated Shorter University and West Georgia in two close games. The Tigers saw a 73-67 victory at Shorter as Kortrijk Miles led the team with 18 points. Returning home, UWA defeated the Wolves, 83-79, as Miles put up 20 points.
The Chargers enter Wednesday's competition after defeating Lee University 71-67 in overtime. CJ Williamson dropped 27 points and nine rebounds in the matchup, and Chaney Johnson had 22 points and eight boards.
West Alabama averages 71.3 points per game while holding its opponent to 60.7 with the No. 3 defense in the nation. Alabama Huntsville averages 82.8 points per game while allowing 71.8.
The Chargers are coached by John Shulman in his third season. Shulman has a 56-18 record at UAH and a 201-164 career record that spans 12 seasons.
