UWA Takes Down UAH 69-68

LIVINGSTON, Ala – The No. 23 ranked West Alabama men's basketball team picked up a Gulf South Conference win on Wednesday afternoon in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium against Alabama-Huntsville 69-68. 
 
The Tigers had three different players score double digits with Shardarrion Allen dropping 16 points, Justin Allison scored 13 points, and CJ Melton added 10 points. Allen brought down nine boards and Melton grabbed eight rebounds. 
 
UWA shot the ball 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field, 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from three-point range, and 50 percent (6-of-12) from the free throw line. 
 
UAH shot the ball 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field, 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from three-point range, and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line. 
 
UWA trailed 42-34 at the break and to begin the second half the Tigers and Chargers battled back and forth. UWA took its first lead of the second half at the 12:29 mark with a three-point shot made by Robert Davis to make the score 48-46. 
 
UAH retook the lead with 10:06 remaining on the clock after a layup was made by CJ Williamson to put the score 49-48. UAH made it a four-point game after a layup by Daniel Saylor made the score 53-57. 
 
The Tigers took the lead for good after back-to-back three-point shots by Te Smith and Allison at the 5:28 mark in the second half to make the score 59-57. 
 
The Chargers missed two three-point shots in the final six seconds of the game and the Tigers held on to get the win at home 69-68. 
 
Chaney Johnson led the Chargers with 26 points during the contest and received six rebounds. 
 
UWA returns to the courts on Saturday, February 19 at Union University in a GSC matchup in Jackson, Tenn. at the Fred Delay Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
