LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Coming off a successful conference series outing against Mississippi College, the West Alabama baseball squad will host Young Harris this weekend in a three-game series at Tartt Field. A doubleheader is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. with a single game on Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (3-10) saw their first victories of the season last week. UWA defeated Miles college in a 15-13 midweek nail-bitter for its first point in the win column. West Alabama hosted the Choctaws in its conference season opener a few days later, taking two of the three matchups.
Mason Hollander, Cade Miller, and Brenton Thiels are the only Tigers in the bullpen with mound victories and are more than likely to make appearances against the Mountain Lions. Despite not having a win, Thomas Boothe leads the pitching staff with a 3.46 ERA for 13.0 innings pitched with 11 hits against, nine runs (five earned), and 23 strikeouts. Boothe has played and started in four games so far this season.
Brayden Lyman had a break-out week at the plate for the Tigers last week. Across four games, the Land O'Lakes, Fla. native tallied six runs, eight hits, and eight ribbies. He was named Jack's Player of the Week for his effort.
Josh Bower leads West Alabama in hitting with a .370 batting average. The Headland, Ala. native, has played and started in 13 games with 54 at-bats, eight runs, eight hits (six doubles), and nine RBIs. Lyman leads the team in scoring with 12 RBIs, and Jacob Messina leads the team in slugging (.520) and on-base percentage (.448).
Young Harris is 7-4 with a recent 10-1 midweek victory at Tusculum. The Tigers are most likely to face McLain Harris on the mound. Harris has made five appearances with one start to pitch 12.0 innings for 10 hits against, one run, and a 0.75 ERA. Ethan Underwood leads the Mountain Lions at the plate with a .350 batting average with 10 runs, 14 hits (one double), and 13 ribbies.
