LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Jake Nemith smacked his second home run of the season, but the Tigers fell 7-6 to Young Harris College at Tartt Field on Sunday afternoon. During their final at-bat, the Mountain Lions rallied to score four runs in the ninth inning to top West Alabama and take the series 2-1.
UWA (4-12) took an early 1-0 lead on Nemith's homer in the bottom of the first inning. In the fourth frame, the Tigers added three runs to lead Young Harris 4-0.
The Mountain Lions (9-5) scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth with two runs in the sixth to cut West Alabama's lead to 4-3.
A sacrifice fly in the seventh gave UWA a 5-3 advantage, and the Tigers appeared to be heading towards victory.
The Mountain Lions had a big ninth inning. Hitting a double and a single, Young Harris scored three runs to lead West Alabama for the first time during the contest, 7-5.
UWA attempted to come back in the bottom frame, but a single for an unearned run was not enough to win.
Gates Pee (0-2) took his second loss on the mound for the Tigers. The Clinton, Miss. native pitched 0.1 innings for three hits against, four earned runs, and one walk.
Tyler Benson started the contest to pitch 5.0 innings for five hits against, one earned run, and two walks.
As a team, the Tigers scored six runs with 10 hits. Josh Bower and Houston Kitterman led UWA at the plate with 2-for-4 appearances. Bower had one double and two runs, and Kitterman had one run and one RBI.
McLain Harris entered in the seventh inning to earn the pitching win. Harris pitched 2.2 innings for four hits against, one earned run, and two walks. Chad Brown started for YHC for 3.1 innings pitched for four hits against, four runs (three earned), one walk, and two strikeouts.
The Mountain Lions scored seven runs on 14 hits while committing three errors. Kyle Ayers and Ethan Underwood led Young Harris with three hits on five at-bats. They both recorded one run and one RBI.

The West Alabama baseball team will resume conference play, traveling to Rome, Ga., for a three-game series versus Shorter University. The series will start on Friday, March 4, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
