Tigers Drop Both Games Against Shorter

ROME, Ga. – West Alabama shortstop Jake Nemith collected five hits in the doubleheader, but it wasn't enough as Shorter swept a Gulf South Conference twinbill from the Tigers Friday at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.

The Hawks won the opener, 8-3, and then claimed the series win with a 7-1 victory in game two. UWA and Shorter wrap up the three-game series with a single game Saturday at noon central time.

West Alabama fell to 4-14 overall, 2-3 in GSC play. Shorter improved to 12-6 and 6-2.

Tyler McWillie (2-0) and Jonathan Pintaro (4-1) earned the pitching wins for Shorter, while Peyton Warren (1-4) and Thomas Boothe (0-3) absorbed the West Alabama losses.

McWillie started game one, working five innings and scattering seven hits while striking out three and walking two. Pintaro picked up a complete-game win in game two, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out seven.

Warren started the opener, allowing six earned runs and seven hits while striking out two over 5.1 innings. Boothe failed to make it out of the second inning after starting game two, allowing four hits and four earned runs while walking four.

Nemith, Josh Bower and Jonathan Thibodeau had three hits each in the opener for West Alabama, but the Tigers left 12 runners on base. Nemith had two of UWA's four hits in game two. Nemith and Kyle Vogler each doubled for West Alabama.

Cameron Tilly, Cory Mason and Justin Barnes contributed a pair of hits each for Shorter in the opener. Lyndon Weaver and Tilly homered in the first game for Shorter. Weaver's was his eighth of the season, while Tilley's hit his second.

Mason collected three more hits in game two, with Kody Krause chipping in two.
